MAC OS 8.6 - 9.1

To begin the setup, quit all programs and return to the desktop.

Step 1: Double click the Hard Drive icon.

Step 2: The Hard Drive that contains the active System Software places itself on the upper right hand corner of the desktop.  It is usually named Mac HD or Macintosh HD (it may even be named with the model of your computer, and have an icon to match), but can also be renamed to anything that a previous user may have chosen.

Step 3: Inside the Window for the Hard Drive, there should be an Applications (Mac OS 9) Folder. Double click on it.

Step 4: Inside the Window for the Assistants Folder, there should be an Alias for the Internet Setup Assistant.  Double click on it.

Step 5: Click the "Yes" button.

Step 6: Click the "Yes" button. This explains the process and information needed.  Make sure you have your user id, password, and the local access phone number.

Step 7: Make sure the type of modem you have is selected on the Modem line, and that the port it is connected to is selected on the Port line. Note: If you have voice mail on your phone line, be sure to check the option to ignore dial tone. Note:  The password field may only display dots for security reasons.

Step 8 The DNS Addresses are 198.76.169.51 and 198.76.169.54 Note:  Press Return to move to the next line in the DNS field. Note:  The password field may only display dots for security reasons.

Step 9: Fill in your email address in long form (consists of your username, the '@' symbol, and the name of our incoming mail server without any spaces).

Step 10: You can click on the "Show Details" button to verify the information is correct.

Step 11: Click on "Go Ahead" to save the configuration.

Step 12: You will then see a screen like this that says "Adding Configuration and then Finishing...".  When the Assistant is finished, you will be returned to the Finder(Desktop). You should now be able to log in to the service by launching one of your internet programs or by using the Remote Access Control Panel in the Control Panels (in the Apple menu), or the Remote Access Status Application in the Apple Menu.
