Windows 2000
REMEMBER, all changes performed on Windows 2000,
must be accomplished using an account with administrative rights.
Step 1:
Open the Windows 2000 Control Panel. The Control Panel is accessible by either
a: by double clicking the "My Computer" icon on the desktop.
b: or by clicking the "Start" button, then click the "Settings" button.
Step 2:
Within the Windows 2000 Control Panel, double click the "Network and Dial-Up connections" icon.
Step 3:
Double click the "Make New Connection" icon.
This process will start the Network Connection Wizard.
Step 4:
If this is the first time setting up a connection, Windows 2000 will require
"Location Information". Simply
enter your telephone area code and/or any special number that is required to obtain an outside telephone line. Click the "OK" button when finished.
Step 5:
Click the "OK" button when finished.
Step 6:
The Windows 2000 "Network Connection Wizard" will step through the process of creating an internet connection. Click the "'Next" button to begin
Step 7:
Select the "Dial-up to the Internet" option. Click the "Next" button to continue.
Step 8:
Select the "I want to set up my Internet connection manually" option. Click the "Next" button to continue.
Step 9:
Select the "I connect through a phone line and a modem" option. Click the "Next" button to continue.
At this point, IF you do not have a modem
installed, the "Add/Remove Hardware" wizard will begin.
The wizard will guide through the steps necessary to install software drivers for a modem. If the modem is not natively supported by Windows 2000, additional drivers will be needed. These usually are supplied with the modem, either on diskette or CD ROM.
Step 10:
If a modem is correctly installed, the "Internet Connection Wizard" will continue. Enter the phone number to dial the internet. Check our getting started page for the dialup number of your location.
Click the "Next" button to continue.
Step 11:
Click the "Advanced" button and verify the connection type. The "Point-to-Point" connection should be selected. Also, verify the "logon procedure" is set to none. Select the "Address" tab when finished.
Step 12:
Verify that the "Internet service provider automatically provides one" option is set for the IP address selection. Also, the "My ISP automatically provides a DNS address" option should be selected.
Click the "OK" button when finished.
Step 13:
Click the "Next" button to continue.
Step 14:
Enter the user name and the password that was supplied to you when you activated your EmsaNet account. Click the "Next" button to continue.
Step 15:
Enter an appropriate name for the dial up connection. use EmsaNet. Click the "Next" button to continue.
If you would like to setup your email account
using Outlook Express select the "Yes" option. Otherwise,
select the "No" button and click the "Next" button. If you selected "Yes" to configure Outlook Express, continue with the setup. Click the "Finish" button to end the wizard.
